The Journey up North & a Pilgrimage up the Sacred Mountain
Located approximately 350km from Nairobi, Mount Ololokwe, locally known, as Oldoinyo Sabache by the Samburu people, is a revered sacred mountain filled with wonder. Towering over the vast Samburu landscape, this Table Mountain offers breathtaking views, thrilling hiking trails, and a deep cultural significance. It is a cherished landmark among the Samburu community, who believe it holds spiritual power and serves as a gateway to their ancestors.

Mount Ololokwe Hike Distance and Stats
Our journey begins at 05:00 in the morning, as we embark on a scenic 6-7-hour drive from Nairobi to Sabache Camp, at the base of Mount Ololokwe. Our commute route is the A2 highway via Nanyuki and Isiolo. Our first stop is at Nanyuki for a brunch and shopping stop. After a half hour's break, we continue our journey up north. Enjoy incredible views of some of Kenya’s most breathtaking landscapes, including rolling plains, farmlands, and picturesque hills.
Before checking into Sabache Eco camp, we shall pop into Buffalo Springs reserve to take a refreshing dip in their natural pool, take a quick game drive then continue on to Sabache Eco Camp. Upon arrival at Sabache Camp, we will set up our tents and take in the serene environment. After settling in, we will have our dinner by the bonfire. Thereafter, enjoy a relaxing evening and night under a star-studded sky, soaking in the tranquil ambiance of the wild, and preparing for the thrilling ascent the next morning.
We will wake up at 3:00 a.m. and gear up for the exhilarating hike to the summit. The trek begins at 3:30 a.m., following an occasionally steep yet rewarding trail through diverse vegetation and rugged terrain. The hike takes the average hiker approximately 3-4 hours to reach the summit. Our aim is to get there just in time to witness a breathtaking sunrise over the vast Samburu plains.
After taking in the mesmerizing views, we will begin our descent back to Sabache Camp, where we will freshen up and enjoy a well-deserved brunch. Once refueled and refreshed, we will pack up and embark on our journey back to Nairobi, ending an unforgettable adventure.

Packing Tip: Choose your items thoughtfully to fit in a 35-50L bag. If traveling with a friend, combine your luggage in a 60-80L bag that goes on the carriage space on the bus.
