Nanyuki Town  

Nanyuki is a market town in Laikipia County of Kenya lying northwest of Mount Kenya along the A2 road and the terminus of the branch railway from Nairobi. The name derived from Enyaanyukie Maasai word for resemblance. Nanyuki town is famous for farms, ranches, game parks and wildlife conservancies in the region, it is also the base for people seeking to climb Kenya. Nanyuki Kenya strategic location and the spectacular views promoted by British settlers during the early days of colonization to build a town, many remnants and descendants of these early settler families still live on the ranches around town.

The Nanyuki town was started by the British settlers during the early days of the colonial Kenya in 1907, some of their descendants still live in or around the town. The town is currently mult-cultural and is the market Centre for farms, ranches, game parks and the wildlife conservancies in the region. It’s also the base for the people seeking to climb Mount Kenya, the most famous landmark in the country. The equator line passes 6.5km south of this town. Nanyuki marks 100 years of existence since it was declared a town by the colonial governor. On November 24th 1920, the Governor of the Colony of Kenya then declared Nanyuki a Township drawing the powers from the East Africa Township Ordinance in 1903.
